4 Tips For Keeping Signage Fresh And Visible This Winter

By February 3, 2023March 3rd, 2023No Comments

As we approach the cooler months, the sun starts going down earlier every day, and we’ll experience more rain and overcast weather.

That can result in outdoor signage wearing down more quickly, and more difficulty in even seeing signage on dreary, dark days.

However, there are some simple ways you can ensure your signage stays fresh and visible throughout the cooler months.

Weatherproofing

Any good signage company will include a number of weatherproofing measures when installing outdoor signs.

But if your outdoor signage is starting to show its age, it might be time to freshen up its weatherproofing for the season ahead. For example, it could do with a fresh coat of polyurethane paint to give it a fresh look and keep it protected from the elements.

Some business owners may be able to prepare and paint their signs themselves, but for many signs, it will take professional tools and experience to access, prepare, and weatherproof outdoor signs. Don’t hesitate to call Wellington Signs for assistance to get your signs ready for winter.

Cleaning

Another simple way to prepare your signs for the season is to give them a clean.

Most signs won’t need much more than a wipe down with warm soapy water and a soft brush to remove dust and dirt. You will also need to remove any leaves or debris that have become caught on top of or behind the sign.

Cleaning your signs will help to keep them looking fresh and new, and to reduce the chance of damage from built-up debris.

Lighting

There isn’t much we can do about dark evenings, but you can at least add or upgrade your sign lighting so it’s much more visible no matter the weather.

If you don’t currently have any lighting at all, now is the perfect time to add a simple spotlight to highlight your outdoor signage overnight, or during bad weather.

Or, if your current lighting isn’t powerful enough or isn’t meeting your standards, it can also be a good time to upgrade to something that better catches your customers’ attention.

Maintenance

Standard signage maintenance is a simple but effective way to keep your signs looking fresh and lasting well over the winter.

This includes checking that all the screws are in place and tight, removing any mould and mildew, and double checking the hardware for signs of wear and tear in case anything needs to be replaced.

In most cases, your outdoor signage should be built to withstand the elements, but age and exposure can slowly wear them down to it’s a good idea to do a quick visual check.
